THE SMARTER CHARGING SERIES · 5 MIN READ

What can OCPP chargers do?

A connected charger is useful. A charger that can speak to the right management platform opens up a much smarter charging experience.

ONE IDEA. THREE SIMPLE STEPS.

How it comes together.

  1. 01

    The charger

Reports its status and charging activity.

  2. 02

    The connection

Carries messages to a compatible management system.

  3. 03

    The platform

Helps the operator monitor and manage charging.

CHAPTER 01

What is OCPP?

OCPP stands for Open Charge Point Protocol. It is an open standard for communication between a charging station and a charging station management system. It can reduce dependence on a single proprietary platform, but matching protocol versions and implementations still matters.

CHAPTER 02

From a charger to a managed charging network

  • Monitor station availability and charging activity from a compatible platform.
  • Use supported smart-charging profiles to manage when and how charging power is allocated.
  • Manage supported authorisation lists and station settings; available functions depend on the implementation.

CHAPTER 03

OCPP 1.6J and newer versions

OCPP 1.6 supports both SOAP and JSON variants; 1.6J refers to the JSON implementation. OCPP 2.0.1 adds device management, security and other functionality. OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1 are not directly compatible, so a version number alone does not guarantee a successful connection.

CHAPTER 04

Questions for your supplier in Pakistan

Before you commit

  • Which protocol version and firmware does this model support?
  • Has it been tested with the management platform I intend to use?
  • Which features, subscriptions and ongoing connection costs are included?
  • Who owns the platform account and handles support or migration?
  • What happens when the internet connection is unavailable?

GOOD QUESTIONS. CLEAR ANSWERS.

Before you choose.

Does OCPP change my vehicle connector?

No. Vehicle inlet compatibility, cable type and charging power remain separate checks. OCPP concerns communication with management software.

Does OCPP automatically include billing?

No. Ask the platform provider about tariffs, payment processing, reporting and subscriptions. Do not assume these services are included with the charger.

Is an OCPP charger useful at home?

It may be useful if you want a specific management platform or a future multi-charger setup. For a single home charger, compare that need with the included app and support arrangements.

MAKE YOUR NEXT STEP A SMART ONE

Find the right fit for your setup.

Confirm the exact charger model, firmware and management-platform compatibility before ordering.
